s part of the City of Sebastian’s Annual Clam Bake the GFWC Sebastian River Junior Woman’s Club, builds and man’s the Survivor Camp.  The camp represents the survivors of the 1715 Silver Plate Fleet Disaster.  Eleven ships load with Spanish gold and silver were decimated by a hurricane.  Approximately 1,000 persons somehow made it to shore to wait for help.  The club lights the ceremonial fire with a magnifying glass, carries it across the river to light the camp fire that stays lit for 56 hours.  Members live in the camp, cooking, and fighting off the pirates who have come to steal the silver treasure.  (the first raid of the Pirates of the Caribbean).

Members and Family  dress up like storybook characters and then read their books to children of all ages, acting out the part as they read to the children. From “Cat in the Hat” to “Race Car” books, something for all.
